It is less than two weeks to the start of National Fishing Month (NFM) 2012, and the indications are that it is set to be yet another fabulous promotion. With more than 250 events nationwide listed online at www.nationalfishingmonth.com, there's plenty of opportunity for people to have a go at fishing at a venue near to home.

Everyone who participates receives a NFM Goody Bag containing a 'Get Into Fishing' booklet full of information on how to get started and advice on different types of fishing, stickers and a money off voucher for the new Go Catch board game. They also receive a certificate of participation as a memento of their days fishing.

NFM headline sponsor, Go Outdoors, has organised a series of in store events around the country which include teaching sessions and hints and tips on carp, coarse, game and sea fishing. The NFM website shows details of how to find a Go Outdoors store nearby.  Go Outdoors will also be promoting National Fishing Month to its extensive database, providing the initiative with an exciting and far reaching promotional message.

Naidre Werner, Chairman of the Angling Trades Association said: 'July and August really will be focused on angling. There are hundreds of events going on across the country. Check out the website at nationalfishingmonth.com for more information of an event near you.'

Across the country, manufacturers such as Daiwa, Dinsmores, Hardy/Greys, Hopkins and Holloway, Lureflash, Maver, Leeda, Pure Fishing, Shimano and Tricast, have all donated tackle and product to National Fishing Month organisers to be used on the bank for coaching and as prizes at their events.

National Fishing Month and the participating events will also be promoted on the BBC's 'Things to Do' website www.bbc.co.uk/thingstodo. The BBC is actively promoting outdoor sports and pastimes this summer and its 'Things To Do' website aims to bring these activities together on one site to inspire audiences to get involved in hands on activities - including National Fishing Month - across a range of genres.

There is still time to register to take part and have a go at fishing. Details of events that are scheduled already are listed on the National Fishing Month website www.nationalfishingmonth.com and can be accessed by postcode.  The nearest events and their details will then be shown.

Notes to editors:

National Fishing Month is a celebration of the sport of angling and each and every piece of media support is most welcome.

National Fishing Month is run by the Angling Trades Association in association with the Angling Trust and the Environment Agency.

All over the country, qualified coaches give their time to welcome newcomers to the sport. Fees are waived and tackle is often made available free of charge from supporting manufacturers and retailers.
