10.11.09  Government Fails to Ease Passage of Fish The Angling Trust and Fish Legal have reacted with dismay to news that the Government has decided that “implementation of the Free Passage of Fish Order should be postponed until at least May 2011”. This Order would have enabled the UK to meet the requirements of the Water Framework Directive and measures for the recovery of the stock of European eel.

09.11.09  A bag of commonsense for angling Chairman Mike Heylin's letter to The Times gives a cautious welcome to signs that new ideas for managing sea fisheries may just be starting to take hold.  Plans for marine protected zones and new conservation authorities replacing the 1880s-style sea fisheries committees, were early signs of emerging progress.

Disabled International Team Receive Cheque

05.11.09  £2,000 raised for Disabled International Coarse Angling Team Fishing for Charity, the brainchild of angler Tony Shaw of Lafarge Aggregates Limited, has presented a cheque for £2,000 to International Manager Joe Roberts to support the England Disabled Coarse Angling team.

05.11.09  Fish O Mania 2010 to be Members Only Angling Trust and Matchroom Sport announced today that entries to Fish O Mania 2010 will be open from 9.00am on 18th January 2010 for a three week period. The closing date for entries will be 8th February 2010 at 4.00pm. Tickets will be on sale at £23.00, an increase of 50p on 2009 to reflect higher peg fees. A new venue, Partridge Lakes, near Culcheth in Cheshire, will be used for a qualifying heat this year. Anglers wishing to register in this year's event will need to have a valid individual membership of the Angling Trust to register and have their membership card with them when they compete.

Scaffolding out of Ehen

28.10.09  Egremont Anglers relieved after scaffolding finally removed from River Ehen Fish Legal has secured a swift settlement of £3,000 on behalf of its member, the Egremont & District Anglers Association, from contractors for Cumbria County Council after poorly-secured scaffolding assembled under a bridge on the River Ehen collapsed and lodged in one of the club’s prime salmon and sea trout holding pools.
