21.10.09  Update from the Angling Trust and Fish Legal

The last month has seen: a massive fish kill on the River Trent, new funding for the Trust's Marine Environmental Campaigns, two successfully-blocked hydropower proposals, settlements of two legal cases and an attack on the water companies by Fish Legal, action on local angling bans, membership growth and a good initial response to our fundraising appeal.

Ladies World Shore Championships Silver Medallists

20.10.09  England Win Silver Medals in Men’s and Ladies’ World Championships Englandís Menís and Ladiesí teams both bagged silver medals in the World Shore Angling Championships held in Budva, Montenegro from 10th Ė 18th October 2009. This fantastic achievement is particularly impressive as they were fishing in unfamiliar waters against teams who are accustomed to these conditions.

19.10.09  Angling Trust Policy Statement on Beavers

The Angling Trust opposes the re-introduction of beavers. In depth analysis of re-introduction projects in Europe, North America and Scotland has highlighted huge potential risks to rivers in England should a similar project be proposed for this country.

Anglers Call for Action after Fish Kills on two Trent Tributaries

07.10.09  River Trent Fish Kill

Anglers have reacted with dismay and anger to the news that thousands of fish in the River Trent have been killed by what is reported to be a mix of cyanide and raw sewage.  Fish Legal, which acts as the legal arm of the Angling Trust in England, will be investigating the potential for taking a civil claim for compensation on behalf of its member angling clubs and riparian owners on the river. This claim would complement any criminal prosecution by the Environment Agency in punishing whoever is found to be responsible for this pollution.

05.10.09  Wyvern Division hold Junior Shore Open

The Wyvern Division of the Angling Trust held its Junior Shore Open event at Teignmouth, South Devon.

In all twenty six juniors fished the event on a rather misty and damp day. The competitors came from as far afield as West Bay and Honiton in the East and Plymouth in The West.
