Angling Trust Charter Boat Membership
The Angling Trust understands that charter boat fishing is an integral part of sea angling in the UK offering superb opportunities for a variety of species throughout the year – often out of reach to shore anglers, private small boat owners and inland sea anglers. The local knowledge of charter skippers is invaluable and means you are regularly fishing over the most productive wreck marks, reefs or sandbanks that produce the biggest and most numerous fish. The angling tourism that charter boats generate provides an essential source of income to local coastal communities. However, charter skippers are finding it increasingly difficult to remain in business. Commercial over exploitation of fish stocks, higher costs and increasing competition for access and resources from commercial fishing and other industries has resulted in a marked decrease in charter boats around the UK over the last few decades.
The Angling Trust is committed to representing the interests of charter boat angling and making sure that the sector can grow in the future. Through our marine regions and national Conservation and Access group we campaign for better fish stocks and continued access to these stocks to ensure charter boats remain at the heart of UK sea angling.
Membership for charter boat operators is just £55 and includes a free listing on our website promoting your business. We will update and consult you on policies and developments in campaigning that could affect you. We will offer you advice and support on conservation and access issues and through the Angling Trust give you a channel to make your voice heard by Government departments and fisheries management bodies such as the Marine Management Organisation and the ten regional Inshore Fishery and Conservation Authorities. This is a new category of membership at just £55 to join the Angling Trust, which will enable you to keep in touch with the latest developments at the Angling Trust & Fish Legal and to let us have any feedback via regional sea angling meetings in your Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority area about the issues which are important to you as a Charter Boat Member. You also receive a free listing on our web site on our 'Find a Charter Boat' Google map feature to promote your business to tens of thousands of anglers. We have negotiated a new, heavily discounted package of high quality marine insurance for our Charter Boat owners which is only available to Angling Trust members. Please contact us for more details.
Fish Legal membership is also now available to Charter Boats for an additional £125. This is a highly recommended additional membership subscription, because membership of Fish Legal will mean you are able to receive free legal advice on environmental and fishery related matters. Fish Legal Solicitors provide specialist advice that you are not able to easily find elsewhere, and highly affordable with just one upfront membership fee. If there are environmental issues affecting where you fish you can contact the Fish Legal team for advice on what can be done about it to protect your interests and the environment. In the event that you are entitled to compensation Fish Legal solicitors will consider your claim and if they believe you have reasonable prospects for success will take that forwards without additional cost to you. This is because as a member of Fish Legal if we agree to take your case you will be indemnified against the legal costs of running it, or any adverse costs in the unlikely event that we lost.
