Angling Development Board ADB Coach Licence

What is the ADB Coach Licence to Practise Scheme?

The Angling Development Board (ADB) coach licence to practise scheme is a scheme that coaches can subscribe to in order to obtain comprehensive insurance and other benefits.

It is underpinned by a set of minimum quality standards to practise as an angling coach. This includes the need for angling coaches to:

  • hold a recognised angling coaching qualification
  • sign up and abide by the ADB Equity and Child Protection Policy
  • sign up and abide by Sport Coach UK Code of Practice for Sports Coaches
  • produce evidence of logged coaching practice
  • produce evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
  • produce photographic ID
  • have completed a Criminal Record Bureau check

Who is it for?

Both Level 1 and Level 2 qualified angling coaches can apply for the ADB Coach Licence to Practise scheme. Level 1 angling coaches are qualified as assistant coaches and can apply for Registered coach status. Level 2 coaches are qualified to independently coach and can apply for the Licensed coach status.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of the ADB Coach Licence Scheme are:

  • it provides comprehensive insurance cover
  • recognition from governing bodies, clubs, the Environment Agency, County Sports Partnerships and Local Authorities as being qualified and safe to coach angling
  • it provides a quality assurance mechanism for employers of coaches
  • discounts off angling products
  • re-assurance for schools and parents that the appropriate checks have been undertaken
