Honiton SAC presentation Night
Friday 8th March 2013 saw the Honiton Sea Angling Club presentation night at the Hare and Hounds public House take place with 70 members and their guests attending the function.
The evening started with a superb Carvery put on by the staff at the Hare and Hounds. Before the presentation started, club Chairman Dennis Retter welcomed all to the function and reported that the club was now starting into it's 20th year and another very good year had been seen with plenty of good fish and results being achieved. Two of the more prominent achievements being that the club had come in at second place in the country with recording specimen fish with the the national body the Angling Trust. The seventy members had recorded well over 100 specimen fish. The winning club turned out to be Paignton SAA from South Devon. The other prominent thing was that two members of the club featured in the England field casting team, Chairman Dennis Retter again captained the two teams and also getting into the England B team was Berry Trevett. Barry was picked for team B and actually came away from the world championships in 12th place, some achievement indeed and Barry's best cast to date is just short of 300 yards!
On the night some 80 awards were made to all the winners. The picture by Mike Spiller shows the main trophy winners with some of their awards.

Angling Trust – Marine -Wyvern Division
Open Shore Slapton and Beesands, South Devon,
on 13th January 2013.
After weeks of wet wild weather, the good forecast of a dry cold day and the promise of quality fish, resulted in a another good entry of 129 competitors fishing the Angling Trust Wyvern Open Festival, at the popular South Hams Beaches of Slapton and Beesands. As expected the majority of fish were caught at Slapton, in the last two hours of the event as daylight faded and the good catches made it a busy task for the organisers, but despite this the results were announced within an hour of the close of scales at the Festival Headquarters at the Church House Inn at Stokenham.
David Rowe on behalf of the organisers thanked the main sponsor Anyfish Anywhere Ltd a major fishing tackle manufacturer, based in Torquay for their continued support, also the competitors many of who had travelled from Bristol, Weymouth and beyond. He confirmed that any money raised from the event would be ploughed back into the work of the Division on behalf of sea all anglers. Thanks were also extended to the Church House Inn for their hospitality.
The worthy winner was David Lane from Weymouth with a combination of a dogfish and whiting to amass 179.88%, He was presented with the top prize of £150 and the Brixham Bowl. The other tackle prizes were valued at over £800 and were awarded down to 12th place, these were presented by sponsor, Julian Shambrook of “Anyfish Anywhere”. All fish brought to the scales were returned or used for the table. The Division promotes the Angling Trust “Take Five” anti litter campaign and encourage all anglers to leave the beaches cleaner than they found them, checks were made after the event to ensure that this was observed
