Angling Trust petition for a review of the judgement passed against W Stevensons of Newlyn at Exeter Crown Court

Anglers concerned at light sentence for commercial fishermenThe Angling Trust is campaigning to encourage an appeal against the judgement passed by Judge Phillip Wassal when he gave a two-year conditional discharge instead of a fine to Newlyn-based W Stevenson and Sons at Exeter Crown Court .

The company was convicted on eight charges of dealing in “black fish”. This involves putting fish which are subject to quota through the books as other species of fish which are not subject to quota. It pled guilty to another 37 charges. We need all anglers to stand up and be counted to persuade the authorities concerned to reconsider this case as it effectively sends dangerous signals to commercial fishermen about the effectiveness of the regulations and laws governing commercial fishing.

Please take a few minutes of your time to complete this short online petition form and we will then deliver it with our own documents to the MFA.
