Warren Martin Wins Fish 'O' Mania 2012 Championship title WARREN MARTIN, a 35 year-old project manager from Lyng in Norfolk, became the 19th annual Fish’O’ Mania champion with a comfortable win over his rivals at Cudmore Fishery outside of Stoke-on-Trent on 20th July 2012. Martin, a 14/1 shot on the eve of fishing’s most prestigious competition, was still in the pack after two hours of fishing but a huge catch of 8.30 kilos in the fifth 30 minute period saw him shoot to the top of the leader board. He lost the lead to Ben Emery after 3 hours 30 minutes but regained the lead following another big session and never took his foot off the pedal as he cruised to victory by over eight kilos. “I didn’t come here thinking I would win it, only that I was in the final and after two hours I didn’t think I had a chance. I saw everyone along that bank catch fish I hadn’t but I didn’t worry about it,” said a delighted Martin. “Winning here is incredible. It’s the biggest achievement I’ve ever had and probably always will be. I think this will sink in next week sometime as it certainly hasn’t now,” he added. Martin collected a big cheque for £31,000 which included a £1,000 bonus for catching the biggest fish of the day, a carp of 5.59kg. Report courtesy of Matchroom Sports

The Fish 'O' Mania grand final is in its incredible second decade, Fish’O’ Mania has developed into a genuine English sporting institution. Broadcast for six hours live on Sky Sports in the UK each summer, and known as the ‘FA Cup of Fishing’, Fish ‘O’ Mania is a superb example of how Matchroom Sport can turn a traditionally non-television sport into an established TV spectacular.
The Fish 'O' Mania final weekend event gains much of its excitement by abandoning the traditional weigh-in at the conclusion of the match, and instead features weigh-ins every 30 minutes which gives the event a changing leader board that makes the action easy to follow.
In addition to the main match there are ladies, juniors and usually a Home International to make it Britain’s most popular angling festival.
Sandra Drew, Competitions & Events Manager of the Angling Trust states "Over the years the Fish 'O' Mania qualifiers attract some of the best anglers in the country, and we are also seeing more ladies and youngsters participate."
"On behalf of the Angling Trust I would like to thank all the volunteers, as without their continued support we would not be able to provide what we do on such a huge scale. The Angling Trust would also like to wish everyone all the very best of luck in participating in the qualifiers in 2013."
