U18s and U22s Team England Coarse Angling Youth Trial

The application forms for the U18s and U22s England Youth Trial nominations are now available for download HERE, and must be completed in full and returned to the Angling Trust in Nottingham, no later than 20th March 2010. The 2010 Sensas Team England U18s and Drennan Team England U22s will compete at the World Youth Championships in Italy.

The 2009 National Sea League Final was fished by a total of 29 five man teams at Eastbourne over the weekend 21/22 November. The match was dominated by the Ipswich based team IMAX Team Porters who managed 3 zone wins, a second and a fourth to give them a total points score of only 9 points.

Government plans will fail our threatened rivers, campaigners warn

The Angling Trust and its partners in the Our Rivers Coalition met with Environment Minister Huw Irranca-Davies by the Thames on Wednesday ahead of the publication of controversial plans for the UK’s waterways.

Earlier this year, a report revealed that three quarters of rivers in England and Wales are failing European targets on environmental quality. But in the majority of cases the Environment Agency’s official plans – due to be published next month - fail to set out action to tackle the problems such as pollution from fertilisers and over abstraction, which threaten fisheries.

Severn Trent Adds Insult to Injury

Anglers have reacted with dismay to the news that Severn Trent Water is to close Draycote Reservoir to all angling until further notice. Severn Trent claims that the closure is due to the planned redevelopment of the visitors’ centre at the reservoir, but planning permission has not yet been agreed for the work. The company is not restricting access to other users during the period of the works; sailing, birdwatching and walking will all still be allowed.

Merseyside Angler Wins 2009 SAMF UK Masters

Merseyside angler Ian Brookes won the 2009 SAMF UK MASTERS on the beaches of Skegness in Lincolnshire 6th & 7th November. 54 qualifying anglers from England and Wales competed for the title and the weather conditions were just right for the matches. Even with the strong breezes the sea conditions were just right and the coloured water helped to produce good catches.

Individual Sea Anglers Club win Silver in World Shore Angling Championships

The Individuals Sea Angling Club (ISAC) based in Portchester, Fareham, Hampshire were granted the honour of representing the Angling Trust at the 17th World Shore Angling Championship for Clubs, an annual event organized under the control of the International Governing body of our sport, the Federation Internationale de la Peche Sportive en Mer (C.I.P.S/F.I.P. S-M).

Final of British Pike Championships - Results

The Angling Trust British Pike Championships, sponsored by FOX INTERNATIONAL, were held on the Fens on Saturday November 7^th. This year's finals were won by Paul Lenton, winning comfortably with 33lb of fish. By plugging away right until the end Wes Ogle managed to snatch both second place and the biggest fish prize with an impressive 20lb 4oz specimen.

Government Fails to Ease Passage of Fish

The Angling Trust and Fish Legal have reacted with dismay to news that the Government has decided that �implementation of the Free Passage of Fish Order should be postponed until at least May 2011�. This Order would have enabled the UK to meet the requirements of the Water Framework Directive and measures for the recovery of the stock of European eel.
