This year’s Angling Trust Division 2 National Championship saw 27 teams (270 anglers) compete on the River Trent Non-Tidal sections from Clifton Bridge to Newark Dyke on Saturday 12th September.

Heavy showers and windy conditions for most of the day made the fishing hard in places, however some great catches, including barbel, bream, chub, dace and roach were recorded.

Three local teams managed to secure the top places. Derbyshire Angling Federation took the Championship title with a tie on 224 points with second place Scunthorpe, but overall had a weight of 49.920kg to take the lead.

The team consisted of: Steve Renshaw, Mark Perkins, Antony King, Colin Walton, Lee Richmond, Richard Wood, John Urruty, Andy Starkey, Clive Fletcher and Wayne Bartholomew.

The good pegs sorted themselves out, while the anglers in the harder areas showed their skills to enable the team to record their winning weight.

In second place was another local team Scunthorpe Tackle, who managed to record their weight of 35.340kg for the silver medal position.

In third place was Loughborough with 219 points and weight of 33.690kg.

On the individual side of things Mark Perkins from the winning team, Derbyshire Angling Federation took the gold medal honours to record 15.840kg from peg H12 on Sheldons (a split section).

Mark’s tactics were fishing loose feed of 7 pints of hemp through the feeder feeder to catch 10 barbel to 5lb and one chub. Mark caught a couple of barbel on caster and the rest on snails!

In second place fishing for Tubertini Ludlow was Simon Deakin on peg H13 again at Sheldons section with 14.770kg.

In third place was Nigel Porter, Ampthill & District on J20 at East Stoke to record 11.800kg to the scales.
