Carver cuts through the field in First Ever Boddington Classic!

Boddington Classic 2018

The Angling Trust Stillwater Championships has had somewhat of rework over the winter break; attendances last year were incredibly weighted towards Boddington Reservoir and thus the decision was taken to focus on the most popular venue. This certainly seems to have paid dividends with the qualifiers selling out in a matter of days!

The first heat took place upon a scorching bank holiday weekend with temperatures up to an unseasonable 20°C! This in turn had its effect on the Carp, who came up into the warmer layers of the water and most fish on the day were taken shallow on pellet waggler. In the run up to the match the road bank had produced some good nets of fish and so this proved on the day, with a gentle northerly wind pushing into the bay.

First on the day was runaway winner Lee Carver with an impressive double ton at 93kg 100g! Lee drew peg 2 on the Road bank and went about picking off fish up in the water. Carp up to an impressive 7.92kg (18lbs) fell to Lee’s pellet waggler, for which he utilised 11mm pellets as both hookbait and feed to get them out to a decent range.

Second on the day from the favoured E section Mathew Threlfall. Matt drew on peg 99 and also amassed a ton up weight in the five hours with 62kg 850g (138.5lb), catching also on pellet waggler up in the water.

Rounding out the top three on the day was Andrew Kirk who put together 53kg 780g from peg 8 in A section. Andrew bucked the trend and caught most of fish on the pole and 8mm pellet as they could be seen cruising close to the bank.

The contest qualification is based upon five sections on Boddington, to give every angler a chance of getting to the final and the results are posted below.

Our thanks must go to Dick and Sheila Pilkington for their tireless effort with the contest and to Banbury and District's stewards at the weigh in.

The next round is at Boddington on the 3rd June. Tickets are currently sold out, but refunded tickets will go back onto the system from the qualifying anglers. These tickets will be available to book online HERE for Angling Trust members.
