Junior and Youth press release 2018

Aston Parks Fisheries played host to a thrilling, Junior and Youth National on Saturday 30th June. Sweltering conditions met the young anglers, who’d made their way from all around the country to fish the event.

Junior National Championships

Looking at the younger, Junior (10-15yr olds) age category, Bills and Butts lake were the chosen venues. Both lakes have a good stock of ide and carp, which were both crucial in placing well as a team.

Chris Randall took the individual honours, with an impressive 32.125kg of shallow caught ide and carp. Drawing peg 43 on Butts Lake, the Nottingham AA angler fed plenty of casters to get his fish competing shallow, where he kept his weight ticking over with Ide, whilst waiting to snare occasional bigger carp.

Austin Jennings took second place by a very narrow margin with 31.450kg, from peg 19 on Bills Lake. The Sensas A4 angler also fished casters shallow, catching both ide and carp. Rounding out the top three was Mitchel Butterfield (Wakefield AC) with 28.500kg from peg 25 on Bills Lake.

On the all-important team front, Marukyu Evesham Youth were crowned Junior National Champions for 2018, in a very tight match. The team clearly had it tactics down for the venue, with three seconds, two thirds and a fourth, highlighting some excellent team fishing! Last year’s winners Sensas A4 ran them all the way and finished just two points behind on 36 points and Wakefield AC rounded out the top three, with a very respectable 32 points.
