Fry flies through to Fish'O Final

25.04.19

FOM qualifier 10 2019

Yet another sell-out Fish’O’Mania XXVI qualifier was held yesterday at the exceptional Gold Valley Lakes in Hampshire and although the weather was on the turn, there were still some good weights to be had. The talk at the draw was that middle lake had been throwing up some decent weights, however it was Syndicate Lake that produced the overall winner.

That winner was none other than the nicest guy in match angling, Simon Fry (Garbolino), who drew on peg 119 on Syndicate. Simon started on the method feeder across to the point with a pink wafter, taking take five quality carp in the first hour. He then switched shallow on his 16m pole line, which he’d been priming with 6mm pellets and went on to take a run of carp which amped up in the last hour, to put together a convincing 169lb 0oz.

Simon added “I’m really looking forward to competing against some quality anglers in the final at Hayfield in July”

Second on the day, ‘again’ in his own words, was the ever-consistent Grant Albutt (Daiwa Dorking). Grant drew on peg 67 on Middle lake and caught mainly F1s on 6mm pellet. Tactics were both fishing short and up in the water further out, to keep the finicky feeders going. At the weigh in Grant had amassed an impressive 121lb dead but was ‘gutted’ to be the bridesmaid once more.

Rounding out the who’s who of carp bagging was Pemb Wrighting (Guru/Mainline Match) in third place. Unusually for Pemb it was an F1 day and after starting on the bottom, he bought his F1s up in water with loosefeed and took 70 on 4mm pellet for his 99lb.

Our thanks must go to the Raisons for the continued support and awesome fishery and to Andre for yet another superbly run qualifier.

We move Northwards for the next qualifier at Larford Lakes, which is already a near Sellout! It's worth noting; as always, we close the tickets on a Monday, or a Wednesday before a match at 15:30, so make sure you visit the booking site to guarantee a ticket.
