The 40 anglers who fished the sixth Thames Tidefest Angling Championship 2019 have raised £200 for the fishing charity Get Hooked on Fishing.

The annual match organised by the Angling Trust and sponsored by Thames Water was held on the tidal Thames at Strand on the Green, Chiswick and Barnes foreshores on Sunday, September 8th.

The winner was Drennan backed Michael Dalziel with an 18lb 8oz bag of skimmers caught on the feeder with worm and maggot. Michael collected £600 in prize money, courtesy of the sponsors Thames Water, and a handsome silver plate from Angling Trust Ambassador Keith Arthur. In second place was Ritchie Tomala who did well to weigh in 17lb 8oz of roach on feeder and maggot. Both the top two came from the favoured Strand on the Green section. Third place was event regular Gordon Bullock with a pole caught bag of 10lb 14oz from Barnes.

Tidefest is a celebration of the recreational importance of London’s river and includes a range of other activities designed to get people out and enjoying what the Thames Tideway has to offer including foreshore walks, river dipping, seine netting, paddleboarding, sailing, kayaking and historical walks along the Thames Path.

Tidefest organiser Martin Salter said:

“The Angling Trust is pleased that the Tidefest Angling Championship has become a popular and regular event in the match fishing calendar. Now in its sixth year the match showcases what great fishing there is to be had right in the heart of London. We are especially grateful to Thames Water for their generous sponsorship which means that a proportion of the ticket money can go to support the fantastic work of the charity Get Hooked on Fishing that does so much to help youngsters get into our sport.”

Sarah Collins, Chief Executive of Get Hooked on Fishing said:

“Massive thanks, yet again, to the anglers who took part in Tidefest 2019. Their continued support of our charity enables us to help even more children and young people access the benefits of angling and take part in the sport we love.”

Will Barnard, Angling Development Manager at Thames Water added:

“It is with great pleasure that Thames Water are able to support an event that not only helps to showcase an improvement in health for the lower river but also supports new anglers coming to the sport through Get Hooked on Fishing.”

Thames Water have just confirmed their support for Tidefest 2020 which will take place on Sunday September 6th.
