19.07.19  Anglers Condemn Fishing Industry’s Disregard For Discards and Government’s Meagre Monitoring

Just six months after the EU Landings Obligation (commonly known as the ‘discard ban’) came fully into force across Europe and a House of Lords committee has already heavily criticised the UK government for failing to enforce the ban which was introduced to eliminate the practice of throwing dead fish back to sea.

08.07.19  Angling Trust Challenges Seal Shooting Death News Story

The Angling Trust has written to the Metro newspaper following a story suggesting anglers were responsible for the shooting dead of two pregnant seals in Walton in Essex. The accusation that members of the public angling recreationally were responsible for the deaths is based on no evidence whatsoever.

02.07.19  Angling Trust Secures Reassurance From RSPCA Over Anti-Angling Claims Following a number of reports in the national press that changes to the governance structure of the RSPCA could see the animal welfare charity fall under the influence of a ‘hardline anti angling faction’, the Angling Trust has secured a clear commitment from the charity that the rumours are ‘totally baseless’ and that the charity ‘has no plans to campaign for a ban on angling‘.
