18.08.14  Match angler to join the Angling Trust’s Competitions Team The Angling Trust has announced that Barnsley Blacks’ team member Frankie Gianoncelli is to move to the Competitions team within the Angling Trust. After a hugely successful year as Regional Officer for Yorkshire and Humber, Frankie will take up the new role of Talent & Competitions Officer in October 2014.

14.08.14  Anglers launch legal challenge against canoeing National Governing Bodies Following a steady increase in complaints of canoe trespass incidents from angling clubs and fishery owners, Fish Legal has sent a legal ‘letter before action’ to the British Canoe Union (BCU), Canoe Wales (CW) and Canoe England (CE) demanding that they stop publishing information suggesting that there is a general right of navigation on non-tidal waterways in England and Wales, and/or that the law relating to navigation on rivers is unclear.  There is no such general right of navigation in law and permission for access is required for people to use boats on rivers.

13.08.14  Kids Rule at the 2014 Junior Sea Angling Festival in Plymouth

A party of young anglers from the West Bay SAC in Dorset joined others from Honiton and the local area to compete in this event organised jointly by the Plymouth Federation of Sea Angling Clubs and Individual Members and the Wyvern Region of the Angling Trust. The total entry was 33 and all had to contend with a brisk South Westerly breeze that blew throughout the afternoon.

11.08.14  Do I Need the Environment Agency?

This is a question regularly asked by owners of ‘commercial’ fisheries and trout fisheries, usually on private land, totally enclosed, often with no stream or outside water feed having an independent water supply. Anglers will often ask why they should buy a rod licence when they only fish ‘private’ waters. Fishery owner Roy Marlow would answer both with an emphatic YES.

04.08.14  Opposition to Off Shore Fish Farming in South West England Grows The Salmon & Trout Association (S&TA), the Angling Trust and Fish Legal have written to the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquatic Science (CEFAS) to express their concerns over a draft proposal to farm rainbow trout off the shores of the South West of England.
