05.09.18  Angling Trust calls for Bass Bag Limit to be restored

Later this month EU Fisheries Ministers will be considering a proposal from the European Commission which is expected to recommend the reinstatement of a bag limit for recreational catches of sea bass for the remainder of 2018.

This follows the publication in June of revised scientific advice from ICES which significantly reduced the estimated impact of recreational fishing on bass from 1,627 tonnes down to 212 tonnes, giving scope to reinstate a bag limit.

01.08.18  Angling and conservation groups call for hosepipe bans to prevent environmental damage The Angling Trust and river conservation groups are calling for UK water companies to stop gambling with the environment and introduce hosepipe bans right now in light of the prolonged hot, dry weather. The call follows the announcement from Affinity Water – a company with no surface storage that relies exclusively on abstraction from chalk streams – during which they claimed that no water restrictions are expected this year. Other companies are also reluctant to take meaningful action.

27.07.18  Partnership delivers new spawning habitat for River Loddon at Sandford Mill

Partners from Thames Water, Twyford and District Fishing Club, Angling Trust, Environment Agency and Wokingham Council Countryside Service met last week to celebrate the completion of the first phase of a £65,000 programme of enhancements to the River Loddon and the St Patrick’s Stream near Reading.

The Angling Trust is urging angling clubs and fisheries to submit more licence applications over the coming winter to ensure that the maximum number of birds are controlled.
