Shade Station - New Trade Member Provides Polarised Sunglasses Offer for Members

Shadestation offer

Shade Station is a UK-based performance eyewear specialist. For over a decade, they’ve provided polarised lenses and durable frames for keen anglers, water-sport enthusiasts and casual fishers alike. They provide eyewear with the latest polarisation and light filtering technology, from Oakley, Polaroid, Ray-Ban, Dirty Dog and many more and they now offer a 10% discount to Angling Trust members. Prescription glasses also available. We recently took a pair of Oakley Crosslink polarised sunglasses out on the water to give them a go.

As a prescription glasses wearer I was keen to check the quality of the Oakley lenses over my current high-street version. The Crosslink glasses are the prescription-specific version of the Chainlink sunglasses, and have a lot of the same features; for example, the coating around the arms is Oakley's Unobtainium coating that gets stickier with perspiration ensuring they do not slide off. They’re also made with their high impact resistant O Matter frame too. Importantly for us anglers, the vast majority of Oakley sunglasses use Plutonite lenses which are 100% UV, UVA and UVB protected.

The frame was comfortable and the side arms are straight rather than curved over your ears but certainly gripped well and I was in no fear of them dropping off as I looked down. They also came fitted with a pair of black arms to match the frame and an extra pair of reddish brown arms to jazz them up a little if you so wish. Other colour options are available too. A nice touch.

Trying out the Oakley Crosslinks down at the beach after bass

In use the polarisation combined with the extra Crizal sun coating added certainly reduced glare and I didn't even notice I was wearing them really after a while. I took them down the beach for a wading session after bass. The water conditions weren't as clear as I had hoped on the day but still I compared the Oakley's to my high street polarised sunglasses (which I had always thought were okay) and was pleased to find they definitely were an improvement, allowing me to make out more definition of objects underwater and with a much better reduction in surface glare. The other main thing I noticed is that with the high street glasses I quite often find I have to tilt my head slightly to find the perfect polarisation angle to maximise my view underwater - an irritation I had got used to I guess. Wearing the Oakley's however proved this was no longer necessary, again a very welcome benefit. For my fellow prescription glasses wearers out there I should also mention my prescription was perfect giving me 100% clear vision all round.

You probably won't be surprised to hear therefore that the Crosslinks have now become my main fishing sunglasses and yes, I even switched the side arms for my next trip!
