Family Fishing West Midlands

The Angling Trust and its member clubs and fisheries are doing a huge amount, supported by funds from rod licence income and a Sport England grant, to introduce more people to the sport that we all love.  We think it’s vital for the future of angling that we recruit new anglers and help existing anglers discover opportunities to try new ways of going fishing.  Our flagship Family Fishing programme, in partnership with charity Get Hooked on Fishing, is a series of events around the country where mums and daughters are as welcome as dads and lads on the bank and beach.  All the events have lots of other things happening as well as fishing to attract people of all ages.

Details of all the events around the country are available on GHOF's web site.

Coming up soon...

The West Midlands Family Fishing event will take place at Kingsbury Water Park, Bodymoor Heath Lane, Sutton Coldfield, B76 0DY from 10am on Wednesday 27th May.  It is being run as part of the Parks 40th anniversary celebrations.  There will be FREE angling sessions on Willow Lake for families starting their angling journey and then participants can move onto supervised independent sessions.  For the existing angler there will be hints and tips available from known anglers and fly casting demonstrations and tutorials.  The EA will also be there to give any advice, demonstrations with a radar locator and a chance to eyeball coarse fish in a fish tank.  There will be a stand where people can sign up to join the Angling Trust & Fish Legal, purchase their rod licence, learn where to go next for more Family Fishing sessions and to meet our regional officer, local licensed coaches and volunteer champions.

Away from the fishing there will be lots more for the family to do as well.  The miniature steam train will be running around the park all day, there will be donkey rides on the field, pedalos for hire on Mitchells Pool, over 20 stalls from local groups including the scouts and Tamworth Sailing Club along with West Midlands Police rural team, Heart FM, a falconry display, cycle hire and access to the childrens play areas and public walkways.  Some activities may charge, but the fishing is free.
