The Angling Trust’s popular Fisheries Enforcement Workshops are again being held in all six English regions this autumn.

These extensive days represent essential training by policing and enforcement professionals, and benefit all anglers interested in protecting fish and fisheries.

Organised by the Trust’s Fisheries Enforcement Support Service (FESS), the workshops are free to attend. Both the FESS and the workshops are funded by freshwater fishing licence money as part of the National Angling Strategic Services Contract with the Environment Agency.

In this short video, National Enforcement Manager Dilip Sarkar MBE explains why these Workshops are so important:

Dilip Sarkar said: “All anglers should really attend these in my view, because we should all know what to do if witnessing an offence. Everyone has a part to play in protecting fish and fisheries and fighting back against fisheries crime.

“Every year, though, we have a few people who register attendance but fail to attend and do not let us know. This prevents someone else benefiting from the day. Registering but failing to attend without a reasonable excuse is also wasting precious fishing licence money. So please, come along and enjoy these unique days, and if you are unable to attend, just let us know – it’s that simple.”

Last year’s workshops received exclusively positive feedback and included this testimony from a club bailiff in the South West: “I would like to tell you how interesting I found the Fisheries Enforcement Workshop – I have learned so much from it. I mainly wish to thank your Building Bridges team and commend the presentation from your Project Officer. As a result, my attitude towards migrant anglers from eastern Europe has changed completely.”
