The Wild Trout Trust auction takes place on eBay and by post, 4-13 March 2014. The catalogue is out now and can be found on www.wildtrout.org

There are 258 lots, mainly fishing days and holidays, but also books, art, tackle, flies, shooting and some unusual lots such as a family day at London Zoo in Regents Park with private tour of the Aquarium, dog training and glamping in a yurt in Hampshire (trout fishing included).

There is a huge variety of trout fishing lots, from mayfly days on the very best beats of the chalkstreams  to little known trout rivers in Kent and Suffolk, big Irish Loughs to mountain lakes in Wales, tenkara fishing in Derbyshire to trolling for ferox and pike on Loch Awe.

There are plenty of affordable lots:  127 lots with start prices of £100 or less.

Many days are accompanied either by local fishermen, professional guides or fishing writers including Charles Jardine, Jon Beer, Dennis Moss, Paul Procter and Stuart Crofts. Many of the lots are highly exclusive or private beats.

It’s not all trout fishing or fly fishing. There are days targeting bass, cod, pike, roach, barbel, grayling and carp and a some interesting ‘challenges’ including the ‘One Rod’  challenge – how many species of fish  can you catch on one rod in a day ? And a light hearted ‘fluff chuckers versus maggot drowners’ day on the streams of north Somerset.

Most of the fishing lots are in the UK and Ireland and can be viewed on a map on the website www.wildtrout.org but also holidays in the Caribbean, South America, Bosnia, Slovenia and France.

The auction is a fantastic gateway to find new waters, new friends and new clubs or syndicates, as well as supporting a good cause.  The funds raised are spent on giving practical advice to clubs and fishery owners and on projects to improve habitat across the British Isles for wild trout and all flow-loving fish.
