Despite being established for little over a year, Brierley Park Angling Club are showing what is achievable with a group of committed volunteers. The award of a £8729 grant from Sport England's Small Grant scheme, will allow the club to continue and extended the good work they are carrying out at the fishery. The grant will pay for a number of new accessible fishing platforms to be installed, full training for 3 members of the club as level 2 angling coaches as well as tackle & equipment to allow the club to run coaching sessions.

James Roche, Regional Officer for the Angling Trust commented; "Brierley Park Angling Club are truly committed to ensuring the future of the pond at Brierley Park. It is really exciting to see a club so focused on getting more people into angling and doing it in the best way possible. No doubt in the years to come Brierley Park Angling Club will be one of the leading clubs in the area".

Steve Savage, Club Chairman commented; "The plans we have for the pond would not have been made possible without the grant and the tremendous help we have received from the Environment Agency, Angling Trust, Ashfield District Council, the community payback team and our patrons Bob Nudd .MBE, Keith Arthur and Julian Cundiff".

The grant is the latest piece of good news for the club who only took over the lease of the pond at Brierley Park in Huthwaite, Sutton in Ashfield a year ago. The club are now even closer to achieving their goal in creating a fishery suitable for all of the community, whether young or old, experienced or new to the sport.

With the pond stocked full of fish it is already a great place to go fishing but under the management of the Angling club it's only likely to get better and better. More information on the club and details of club membership can be found at www.brierleypark.co.uk
