Neil 'rustles' up some large carp in the Boddington Classic

Boddington Classic June 2018 press release

The second round of the Boddington Classic was another warm, muggy affair and as the morning breeze disappeared the lakes resident carp could be seen milling around on the surface. Whether these fish would be obliging to anglers’ hookbaits was very dependent upon the draw, with C and D sections hosting the most consistent weights. This was quite different from the previous qualifier, where the dam wall (A section) dominated proceedings.

Boddington in recent years has become a rod and line water, with the larger carp tending to push out towards the middle of the lake, and so this proved once more with many carp taken on the pellet waggler.

Stand out winner of the qualifier was Swan Baits angler Neil Russell, who had a very busy day for his 72.80kg (160lbs) of carp up to, and over 10lbs. Neil drew on peg 85 in D section and fished the pellet waggler with pellets as hookbait.

Second on the day was Birkenhead angler Barry Bush, who also drew on some fish in C section peg 76. Bucking the trend somewhat, Barry fished the pole both shallow, and on the deck, and managed to put together a very respectable 54.60kg.

Rounding out the top three was Alan Dewhurst, who was also in section C and adjacent to Barry on peg 77. Alan's tactics on the day were pellet waggler at medium range, taking carp up in the water. At the scales Alan also broke the ton barrier with 50.76kg.

The contest qualification is based upon five sections on Boddington, to give every angler a chance of getting to the final and the results are posted below.

Our thanks again must go to Dick and Sheila Pilkington for their tireless effort with the contest and to Canal & River Trust Angling for their continued support.

The next round is at Boddington, on the 11th July. Tickets are currently sold out, but refunded tickets will go back onto the system from the qualifying anglers. These tickets will be available to book online HERE for Angling Trust members.
