Jay Lee, England Manager stated “The Championship started with the 175g and all our lads got through the day unscathed and they really did give it everything and worked well together. On the 150g day they went out fighting hard and one of our team members Duane Lockwood broke the world record for the longest back cast ever with a staggering distance of 262.99m, to finish third in the 150g category. The next day Kevin Southey was able to cast the 125g to get his measure for the team and he fought till the end of that day, but we knew deep down that was the end of his competition, as he was in a lot of pain after injuring his knee on the practice day. I therefore made the decision after speaking with Kevin that I would replace him on the final day of the 100g.

Some of our team members who stepped forward to cast for England had no experience of a World Championship, but they did not disappoint me, in fact they did themselves, the Angling Trust and their country proud. I was overwhelmed with the support every athlete from all nations gave and the well wishes for the future.”

In honour of Dennis Retter, Team England’s Manager for many year’s exemplary international service and Terry Carroll from Zziplex, Team England wore black armbands at the opening ceremony in remembrance.

Next year the 22nd FIPS-M World Championship Long Casting of Sea Weights will take place in South Africa as part of the World Games.
