Level 2 Certificate Level 2 Certificate - L2CCA: For experienced coaches or those from other sports

Qualifications: Overview

Qualification Overview

Effective coaching forms the basis of the development of anglers across England, whether you wish to develop the basics of angling or learn advanced techniques to perform to the highest level. Angling coaches have been supporting the development of anglers and angling for years in clubs, school, fisheries and other groups. Our coaching qualifications are delivered through a combination of practical delivery, home study and written work allowing a degree of flexibility for all learners.

Level 1 Award: Angling Support Coach (L1AACA)

This is a newly-developed qualification which replaces the Level 1 Award in Coaching Angling as of April 2019.  it is the entry-level award offered and is the starting point for anyone wishing to begin a journey in coaching angling. This is not just for those new to the sport but also for those new to coaching, as it provides lots of information to assist you in the role of an Angling Support Coach.

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling (L2CCA)

This is for those who have had experience in coaching angling, or can be for those who have already gained coaching qualifications (1st4sport) in another sport*. In most cases applicants need to hold a 1st4sport Level 1 qualification in coaching angling or to have exemption from Level 1 confirmed through the Angling Trust Coaching Centre.
This qualification will provide you with the knowledge and skills to provide independent coaching to individuals or groups of learners. A Level 2 course requires some practical delivery as well as theoretical study.

*For coaches who have qualified in a sport other than angling there will be certain preliminary procedures and assessments to complete before they can be registered onto a Level 2 CCA course. If you are considering this route to Level 2 you will need to allow time for the relevant processes to be completed and for a confirmation of exemption to be issued before you book a Level 2 coaching course.  You should also be aware that there may be a cost implication in connection with assessment.
If you think that you could apply for exemption from Level 1, please email with brief details of relevant qualifications/experience that you could provide in support of an application.

The Learner fee for a Level 1 or Level 2 coaching qualification undertaken through the Angling Trust includes tuition, registration, learning, resources and certification, but NOT travel, meals or accommodation.

Learners are also eligible to receive the first year of Coach Licensing free of charge, providing that they apply within one month of receiving their qualification certificate.

There's now an online booking system for our public coaching courses which includes information about the qualifications, pre-requisites, course content and Learner fees.

For details, please see the

Course Booking webpage

Please note that you don't need to be a member of Angling Trust in order to book onto a coaching course.  If you take up the offer of a year's free Coach Licensing after qualifying, individual membership will automatically be included.
