Coaching in angling is an immensely rewarding and positive experience.  Help build a sustainable future for angling by getting a qualification that is recognised by funders and employers nationally, and become part of the Angling Trust's licensing framework to ensure that learning to fish is a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Once you are qualified, you will be eligible to apply for an Angling Trust coach licence which provides free insurance, opportunities for continued professional development and greater assurance to funders and parents.  Click on the link HERE to find out more about our Level 1 and Level 2 courses and how you could be part of a bright future for angling.

The Level 2 qualification is for those who have had some experience in coaching angling and would like to lead in a position of coaching whether independently, within a club or at a fishery.

Applicants for a Level 2 course should already hold a 1st4sport Level 1 Award/Certificate in Coaching Angling or an  exemption confirmation document (L1-EX-02) issued by the Angling Trust Approved Centre and will need to supply the appropriate evidence with their application for a Level 2 course.

Without the appropriate Level 1 qualification or confirmed exemption, you can't be registered with the awarding body 1st4sport as a Learner on a Level 2 coaching course.

There is also a time consideration for progressing from Level 1 to Level 2: please see the information on the booking facility.

Before you can be certificated at Level 2 you must supply evidence of suitable training for First Aid and Safeguarding & Protecting Children.  Please check before you book or pay for any training that it will comply with the requirements.

However you needn't delay booking onto a Level 2 event simply because you haven't yet sourced suitable First Aid and Safeguarding, as you can supply the evidence afterwards.  We will also direct you to appropriate training providers.

There is now an online booking facility for places on Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

Information about the qualifications, pre-requisites and Learner fees is available to view on the course booking webpage.

Go to

Online Ticket Booking System

and select "Coaching" from the toolbar.

Click the "View event" button for any forthcoming course that's displayed there to see the details of cost, pre-requisites and content for that qualification (you can view this page even if that event is no longer available for booking).

[If you have secured a coaching bursary through the Angling Improvement Fund, you will be provided with the means to claim a place on a closed course, and your event won't be advertised on our online booking site.]

Please note that you don't need to be a member of Angling Trust in order to book onto a coaching course.  If you take up the offer of a year's free Coach Licensing after qualifying, individual membership will automatically be included.

The list of courses currently displayed via the booking facility is not necessarily an exhaustive one — further events will be added.  We normally expect to run at least two Level 1 courses and one Level 2 course in each of the eight sport England regions during a calendar year, and often more than this  However not all tutors or venues may be available throughout the year, so the arrangements can vary from one region to another.

As soon as we have confirmed details of further courses, they will be added to the list that is currently displayed and opened for booking.

The Learner fee for a Level 1 or Level 2 coaching qualification undertaken through the Angling Trust includes tuition, registration, learning, resources and certification, but NOT travel, meals or accommodation.

Learners are also eligible to receive the first year of Coach Licensing free of charge, providing that they apply within one month of receiving their qualification certificate.
