Daniel Vine Crowned Greys Junior Bank National Champion 2016/17

17 talented young anglers from around England attended the Greys Junior Bank National Final at Ellerdine Lakes on Sunday 9th April 2017 and it was Daniel Vine, aged 15 from County Durham who emerged victorious and took the title of National Champion 2016/17.

Anglers were greeted with bright sunshine and a brisk wind as they arrived at the fishery and it was never going to be an easy day for fishing however each and every anglers was determined to enjoy themselves and eager for the competition to get underway. The morning session was filled with anglers catching a variety of Rainbow, Tiger, Brown and Blue trout and it was England Youth Fly Fishing team member Seth Mayhew-Tuson who set the standard catching 5 fish from his first peg, 3 of which came from his first 3 casts.

The lunch break provided a welcome break from the weather and an opportunity for anglers take a breather and try to calculate how they were doing in comparison to the other competitors.

The afternoon session saw the predicted drop in catch rates but not in the anglers morale. Each and every angler remained positive and worked hard for their next fish and it was another England angler Louis Masserella who stole the afternoon session with a stunningly beautiful brown trout which proved worthy of the 'Best Fish of the Day' prize winning a Greys GTS 500 5/6/7 reel. Young James Penwright making his second successive appearance int he final worked hard all day and was rewarded with a Greys Telescopic Landing Net for 'Best Effort'

Competition sponsors Greys Fishing ensured that every angler left with a bag full of goodies consisting of a Platinum Fly Line, a Small Slot Fly Box, a Reel Case and a Tapered Leader, all gifts were very well received by the participants.

Top 3 rods on the day were:

1st Place: Daniel Vine
Daniel successfully netted 12 fish giving him a total of 19 points and Daniel was rewarded with a Greys GR70 9' 6# rod, a Greys GTS 700 5/6/7 reel, a Greys telescopic landing net and a medium sink 6' # fly line.

2nd Place: Ben Fox
Ben landed 11 fish for 17 points and took home a Greys GR70 9' 6# fly rod, a Greys GTS 700 5/6/7 reel and a Greys telescopic landing net

3rd Place: Seth Mayhew-Tuson
Seth's 12 fish and 16 points meant he won a Greys GTS 700 5/6/7 reel and a telescopic landing net.

Competitions officer Corina Smith said "Despite the relentless sun and wind every angler fished exceptionally hard in the day and demonstrated extraordinary determination and skill throughout and congratulations to everyone."

Planning for the 2017/18 competition has begun and details will be announced in the summer of 2017
