Angling Trust Vacancies

Non-executive Director, Angling Trust
Voluntary role – 10 days per year
Travel expenses payable
Closing date: 21 June 2020

The Angling Trust is the National Governing Body for angling in England and the representative body for all marine and freshwater anglers in England and Wales. It was formed in 2009 following a historic merger of several national angling bodies.

It is united in a collaborative relationship with Fish Legal, a unique, unincorporated, not-for-profit membership association using the law to protect fish stocks and the rights of over 2,000 member angling clubs and fisheries throughout the UK.

The Angling Trust is funded by its members and external funding partners to campaign for the protection of the water environment and the rights of anglers. It provides membership benefits to individual anglers, clubs and fisheries including a wide range of competitions. It also delivers contracts for the Environment Agency and Sport England to contribute to the promotion of angling participation.

We are seeking to appoint two new Nominated Non-Executive Directors, to join the Board and help steer the organisation through the next stage of expansion and development. These roles are nominated from within our membership, by our membership, ensuring members have a clear voice on the Board and that our policies and strategies reflect the needs of the membership.

You are likely to have experience at board or senior executive level in similar-sized commercial or voluntary sector organisations and, ideally, be keenly interested in issues affecting angling and the water environment.  We are actively seeking to increase the diversity of the board and are also particularly seeking candidates with experience of any of the following: club or fishery management; fundraising; elite performance; volunteer support; sea angling.

These are voluntary roles and are not remunerated. It involves attending four meetings a year in London, with preparation and occasional additional meetings and e-mails.

Applicants may be called to meet with the Nomination Committee, ahead of their details being put forward for consideration by the Subscribing Members for nomination at the Annual General Meeting, 28 November 2020.
