The Glebe, Leicestershire, sponsored by Mallory Park Fisheries held the prestigious Angling Trust Masters Championship on Saturday 24th August with seven teams from around the country fishing for the Championship title of 2019.

With glorious sunshine and record temperatures it was going to be a good day fishing all round. Roy Marlow hosted the event and gave the anglers an update on some of the work the Angling Trust were involved with.

Roy Marlow said “This event is not just about a serious fishing match; it is also about raising the profile of the Angling Trust and having a great time and meeting old friends.

One of the highlights was the raffle afterwards which actually raised more than enough money to pay for the lovely meal that everyone had. The surplus cash was donated to the McMillan Cancer Support Charity which included an additional donation from the winning team. This gave us £105, in addition to other cash raised, which has meant that in the last 10 days alone anglers have given £1,105 to McMillan, so sincere thanks to everyone and to sum it up, a smashing day that I hope everyone enjoyed.”

A look back at 2018

Eight teams lined up to try and win the title on Saturday 17th August 2018. With plenty of space for the anglers it was always going to be a great fishing day.

Roy Marlow hosted the event and gave the anglers (all individual members of the Angling Trust) an update on some of the topics the Angling Trust were involved with.

Andy Dyson 251 lbs

The fishing was awesome with 35 anglers weighing in over 100lbs and six anglers weighed over 200lbs.

Top weight of the day with 283lbs was Pete Bailey, his catch included almost 60lbs of “silver fish “from the new Pool Lake 9.

It was the Team event that was the important event to win and local team Mallory Park Pink put in a brilliant performance to win with 18 points. The team consisted of; Phil Hill, Carl Williams, Andy Kinder, Gordon Parker, Andrew Williams and Greg Cooper.

It was a very close event and in some cases just another fish could have changed the final results. The fishing was followed up with a raffle and some great food for everyone. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the fishing and the socialising afterwards.

Roy Marlow said, “If it was not for the work that the Angling Trust does we would not have the outstanding fishing that we have today”.

A Look Back at 2017

This year the size of the event was unfortunately reduced because the date clashed with other major events on Saturday 19th August 2017 at the Glebe, Leciestershire.

That didn’t dilute the event regarding enthusiasm and fantastic support for the Angling Trust.

Mallory Park Fisheries sponsored the event and every competitor had a good time with plenty of fish being caught.

Organiser of the event and Fishery owner pointed out that with some teams struggling to put in a full team Mallory Club members were on hand to make up team numbers.

This would affect the results but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for the Team Members.

With 42 anglers fishing in 7 teams there were 16 weights over 100lbs.

The individual winner was Trev Robinson with 186lbs from Glebe pool 5.

It could have been a lot more if a carp hadn’t pulled in his top 5 pole joints during a rain shower.

The Team championship was a nail biter with only a few points difference between the top three teams.

Fishery owner Roy Marlow thanked all the anglers for being members of The Angling Trust which is devoting endless time to promote and protect our sport.

 Top 3 team results

1st Dynamite Maver Midlands 17 points

2nd Mallory Park Red 19 points

Pete Baily 161lbs

Andy Kinder 124lbs

Trev Robinson 186lbs

Carl Tamayo 124lbs

Arron Morton 88lbs

Thanks to all the team sponsors and anglers who bought along loads of raffle prizes.

Roy Marlow said, “ It is always difficult to find a date that does not clash with other major events. We have to plan 12 months in advance but hope that next year we can have more teams enter this prestigious event.”

Look back at 2015

Saturday 15th  August 2015

The Angling Trust Masters 2015 is a prestigious Team event staged at Mallory Parks Fisheries complex at Peckleton Leicester.

This year 17 teams representing various fishing companies put on a great display for their respected sponsors on Saturday 15th August. Although the complex had been fishing brilliantly everyone knew that after the excessive rainfall and atmospheric conditions that now prevailed it was going to be a fishing match and not a catching match. That’s exactly how it turned out and it led to a very close finish.

Almost every team had at least one low section-positioning member including the top three teams and it turned out to be a tie on points for two of the teams. Frenzee Match Catch and Pino’s Pals both tied on 38 points. A count back on weight just gave Pino’s Pals victory for the 2015 Team Title.  Pino's Pals squad were; Chris Needham, Andy Finlay, Jarrad Smith, Jason Le Bosquet, Jamie Hawkins and Joe Carass.   Fishing for Frenzee Match Catch were; Glyn Reynolds John Whincup, Andrew Neal, Andy Oldham, Ian Wilcox-Burdett and Jamie Adcock.

It was equally close for the top individuals with only 1lb separating Jase Brown and Warren Martin both next to each other on Uglies Glebe Pool 3. Warren just ahead with 216 lbs 8oz with Jase on 215 lbs 8oz.

After the event everyone had a great meal and possibly the best raffle in the industry with 130 prizes to be won.

Roy Marlow Fishery owner and organiser thanked all the anglers for supporting this fantastic event and the Angling Trust.

Roy commented “Without the Angling Trust and Fish Legal all of us would not have such fantastic fishing everywhere in this country.

"The photograph of Any Kinder says it all, having a nice day and proud to be a member of the Angling Trust."
