Anglers with Disabilities “My biggest highlight over the years was being selected to fish for England in 2008 in Germany for the Freshwater International angling team, managed by Joe Roberts. I came 4th in my section on day one, and 7th the following day. If it wasn’t for the support from my wife Sharon, I would find it really difficult to compete. I am looking forward to taking part in future National Championships for Anglers with Disabilities”. John Holmes

(Elliot Fay 2019 Winner)

The Anglers with Disabilities National Championships saw some horrendous conditions at Heronbrook as it rained heavily all day long, however nineteen hardy competitors were rewarded with some good fishing.

Elliot Fay (Matrix) put the disappointment of finishing second last year behind him by smashing the opposition with a great display of feeder fishing to amass a terrific weight of 62.980Kg. This gave him an easy victory to earn him the Championship crown for 2019. Pegged on Island Lake 19, Elliot fished a small method feeder with micros and a red wafter to take mainly carp to 5kg.

Tremendous Nicholls edge the Anglers with Disabilities National Championships

The Angling Trust Anglers with Disabilities National Championship saw 19 anglers battle it out on the lucrative Molands pool on a muggy overcast day at Packington Somers.

International Silver Medalist Elliott Fay stormed out of the blocks catching F1s on long pole from peg 46, but his early lead was eventually whittled away as Elliott’s fish deserted him and David Nicholls fish on peg 58 grew more confident, slipping up with ever increasing frequency.

David Fished a tremendous match and was crowned Anglers with Disabilities National Champion with 24.175kg, Fay pushing him right to the wire and ending up an agoinising 500g behind him with 23.475kg.

Match Report

Elliot Fay takes the Championship title in the Angling Trust Anglers with Disabilities National Championship

This year’s Angling Trust Anglers with Disabilities National Championship was fished on Arles Lake at Woodland View Fishery near Worcester on Saturday 4th June.

Fishing for the 28 competitors proved quite difficult on a bright warm day with no ripple on the water.

The winner on the day was Elliott Fay of Kingsteignton Devon fishing peg 37.  He started by fishing the pellet feeder to an island and had just three small carp in the first hour.  Switching to the pole line that he had been feeding regularly proved fruitless so he decided to stay fishing the feeder for the rest of the match. He finished with twenty small carp for a weight of 19.500 kg and a comfortable win.

Third place went to Shaun Scriven of Derby fishing peg 22. Shaun fished banded pellet shallow on the pole 16.750 kg catching ten carp.

Richard Rawsthorne Wins the Championship Title for Anglers with Disabilities

26 anglers with disabilities competed for the title of National Individual Champion at the Angling Trust National Championship for Anglers with Disabilities at Lakeview Fishery, Melton Mowbray on Saturday 13th June 2015.

Weights were not expected to be high following practice during the week and returns from the open matches, and far from ideal weather conditions greeted the competitors on the day.  The lakes in use for this match were Lagoon and Serpent with Serpent being the one more favoured by the anglers.
