Drennan Lindholme Elite edge Barnsley in Commercial National

The ever prolific Lindholme lakes was once more the home of the Team Commercial this weekend, the first big Angling Trust National of the year. Last week it was shorts and t-shirts, this week it was back to waterproofs, fleeces, and thermals! The 240 anglers fishing had to endure some truly horrendous conditions, strong gusty winds and heavy downpours, which greatly hampered bait presentation and any long pole fishing.

Thankfully there were still plenty of bites for most and it led to a close, exciting finish in the team event.

Individually it was one of two teams that were created specifically for this event that produced the Individual winner, as Barry Rodgers (Beggsys Midnight Runners) took an impressive 56.350Kg of F1s, carp, and skimmers from peg 1 on Bonsai. Second place went to Craig Tidswell (Rochdale Angling) with 49.450Kg with a similar catch from peg 72 on Bonsai and third place went to Karl Webster (Matrix Bait-tech LTB) with 47.650Kg from peg 1 on Beeches.

On the team front, it was a clean sweep for the Drennan sponsored teams with venue regulars Drennan Lindholme Elite totalling 100pts to retain the title they've won for the last two years! This consisted of three section wins from; Johnny Kenning, Michael Owen and Paul Wright, with the remaining anglers all making the top 5 in their sections! This was enough to take home the gold medals and the winners’ cheque of £2500.

But it was a close call with the other favourites Drennan Barnsley Blacks having to settle for Silver after they finished just 3pts behind with 97pts. Barnsley Angler Frankie Gianoncelli added, 'we'll be back again next year to get the title'. Rounding out the top three were Drennan North West, who took the bronze position with 90pts.

The Angling Trust would thank Neil & Aaron Grantham and their team at Lindholme for a great day and their continued sponsorship of the contest. With the expansion plans for Lindholme we’re hoping to house more teams next year, but this will be dependent on how the new lakes settle in. Further thanks must go to Andre Grandjean and our resulter for the day Jemma Phillips.

A Look Back at 2018

Garbolino Lindholme Elite retain coveted Team Commercial

Date: Saturday 28th April 2018

Venue: Split between two fisheries - Garbolino Lindholme Lakes & Woodhouse Grange Fisheries, Doncaster

The Angling Trust Team Commercial once more ended in an incredibly close affair with the top four teams only separated by seven points. This year’s competition was improved with the addition of Woodhouse Grange to both accommodate for the further demand, and also to give anglers more space at Lindholme. This certainly seemed to pay dividends, with all the top five anglers on the day breaking the magical ton barrier!

On an Individual front Josh Turbill (Maver North West Spotted Fin) made the most of Bennys Peg 60 and took top spot with 52.680Kg. Josh put together a cracking bag of F1s, fishing pellet on short pole and down the edge. Stu Fotheringham (Marukyu Midlands 1) took second place with 50.310Kg from Bonsai peg 62, and Ladies England International Kayleigh Smith (Browning Team Ossett) took an impressive third place with 46.730Kg from Bennys peg 10.

On the team front congratulations once again to local team Garbolino Lindholme Elite, who retained their Team Commercial title after totaling 100 points. Their top rods on the day were Alexander Dockerty and John Allerton who both recorded section seconds. However, it was their consistency which was the key, with eight anglers making top-five positions.

Coming in a worthy second were Maver North West Spotted Fin who ended up with 95 points, with Lee Bennett, Roger Priestley, Paul Balmforth and Josh Turbill all taking their sections to keep them ahead of the chasing pack.

There was a two-way tie for third position, which is often the case in these highly competitive matches, but on weight countback Browning Team Ossett just pipped Drennan Barnsley Blacks to the post: 200.840kg to 182.110kg.

It must also be mentioned that Drennan Barnsley Blacks, Dynamite Derbyshire Angling Federation and UK Armed Forces all had anglers disqualified for fishing the wrong pegs. We’d like to thank all the captains, anglers, and teams for their support on the decision.

The Angling Trust would like to thank Neil Grantham and his team at Lindholme, Mike & Alison at Woodhouse Grange and Jemma Phillips for all their help in making this a successful match.

A Look Back at 2016

Drennan Barnsley Blacks win the Angling Trust Team Commercial Stillwater Championship

28 teams contested Angling Trust’s top Stillwater event at the usually prolific Garbolino Lindholme Lakes, Epworth, Doncaster on Saturday 30th April 2016.  However,  the wildly fluctuating weather in the days leading up to the Championship and on the day itself pretty well ensured that for many it would be a struggle. That said the top ten anglers all posted weights over 25 kilos and 18 kilos was the lowest section winning weight.

Good section points really had to be worked hard for with, sometimes, just one decent F1 making all the difference.  Not surprisingly this produced as tight a finish as you could imagine in the team event with, literally, three points separating the top three teams.

Drennan Barnsley Blacks 2016

(Drennan Barnsley Blacks)

Drennan Barnsley Blacks came out on top with 193 points recording one section first and two seconds. Runners up were Matrix Dynamite Trentmen who, although not having a section winner saw half of their team finishing in the top six in their respective sections. Drennan North West with one section winner and four others in the top seven took third place with 190 points. Fourth place went to Mosella Quaker with 177 points and completing a pretty successful day for Drennan sponsored teams Drennan Leicester were fifth with 176.

Matrix Dynamite Trentman 2016

(2nd place team - Matrix Dynamite Trentman)

Individually it was Beeches Pool which dominated proceedings, Drennan Leicester’s Shaun Huggins with a great weight of 40 kilos 110 grammes from permanent peg 30 on Beeches Pool captured the top spot.

Second was Colin Mayor fishing at Beeches peg 5 for Drennan North West. Colin weighed 32 kilos 280 grams.  Steve Holbrook of  Nottingham A A took third with 29 kilos 920 from Beeches 1. Fourth was Peter Close of Mosella Quaker who weighed 29 kilos 780 grammes from Bonsai peg 49 just ahead of Drennan Leicester’s Bob Greenbury who had 28 kilos 600 grammes from Laurels 35. Just a few grammes short in sixth was Dean Smith of Lincoln with 28 kilos 280 grammes from Beeches 21.

The Angling Trust would like to thank Garbolino & Lindholme Lakes for their support of this event and providing the first place prize money of £2,500 to the winning team.  This year also saw the 2nd place team being awarded a prize money cheque from the Angling Trust of £500.  Appreciation and thanks to Neil and all the staff at Garbolino Lindholme Lakes for all their help and support on the day of the Championship.
